For the most part, Blazing Sun Battle Groups are centred on either the Sokotsu Class Battleship or Hachiman Class Dreadnought, which are fitted with what is most probably the most powerful main turret of the period. Even the Kiyohime Class Assault Carrier, which is based on the Sokotsu, has a single turret of the same design, turning combined Battle Groups of Sokotsu and Kiyohime vessels into a dangerous foe for enemy fleets to encounter.
The Sokotsu and Hachiman are therefore very effective on a slow approach firing forward, supported by rocket barrages at long to medium range. They are at their most dangerous however when they turn to flank an enemy force and bring both guns to bear, or in the case of the Kiyohime bring its rear gun to bear in support of the rest of its Battle Group. Even when these classes of ship are damaged they still pack a serious punch, especially as their rockets can generally fire in any direction.
The Nakatsu Class Cruiser and Uwatsu Class Frigate provide additional targets to distract enemy targeting. They are difficult to destroy, and like all Blazing Sun ships their critical locations have reinforced bulkheads. The Nakatsu Class does have formidable batteries of guns on the port and starboard side, and when carefully positioned a squadron of such ships can create a heavy barrage of combined fire that equals that of larger vessels.
It is often in the interest of Blazing Sun commanders to cut off enemy formations and surround them, as the larger vessels can usually outlast enemy ships in a stand up fight. The Nakatsu Class meanwhile is very effective at cutting through enemy formations so that it can bring both port and starboard batteries into action. The Hachiman Class also has mines as an ancillary weapon, making it a danger to formations that it passes through, in addition to its torpedoes and rockets.
The Kitsune Class Escort is an effective anti-rocket/boarding vessel, while the Yurgi Class Destroyer has rocket batteries firing out of three arcs. When a squadron of destroyers manages to position itself with targets in all three arcs, it can certainly cause serious damage to enemy ships in the small and medium size class. Blazing Sun ships use incendiary rounds in their rocket systems, which often start fires on enemy ships causing damage and ongoing disruption.
At the present time many Blazing Sun Battle Groups rely on the Tenkei Class Sky Fortress for aerial support from aeroplane squadrons. They carry more aeroplanes than the Kiyohime Class, and being airborne have the advantage of having unobstructed movement and line of sight for the most part. The Tenkei Class also has large bomb racks in addition to strong turrets and defensive weaponry, making it very effective in direct close support of a naval Battle Group.
